Ohio Ramble

UpdatedOct 3, 2024 @ 2:13 PM

The Ohio Ramble occurred at Carillon Historical Park September 18-19, 2024, and is an event hosted at the home bases of 6 Ohio train clubs featuring 7.5”-gauge railroads. The entire event spans a couple of weeks and is an “open house” for each club to host the other Ohio Clubs and other visitors with 7.5”-gauge trains.

The Dayton portion of the Ohio Ramble is hosted within the confines of Carillon Historical Park, as we do not have our own land for our trains. Therefore, there are limitations imposed by our host which might not be limitations at some other locations. We have no limitations on our fun, however!

We had about a dozen visitor trains on our rails during the event, and had about 18-20 visitors from other clubs. Everyone expressed their appreciation and it seemed like all participants had a great time.

  • Track is within Carillon Park which is open 9:30a-5p on Wed and Thu.
  • No camping in the park.
  • Parking is at the opposite end of the Park from the track, but vehicles can be brought back to the track temporarily to load and unload their equipment.
  • A picnic shelter is available for eating and socializing.
  • Can leave a trailer or train overnight as our track is within a gated area, but there is no security officer on premises. We’ve not had issues with theft or vandalism.
  • There is food at the park, or many more choices nearby in and around the University of Dayton campus.
  • Our track has multiple possible routes. However, for various logistical reasons, we will set one route for the Ramble.
  • Longest possible route: 0.96 miles. Route set for the Ramble: 0.65 miles.
  • Track type: welded steel flat bar.
  • Switch style: two types: multi-gauge; 2-rail sprung switches.
  • Tightest curve radius: 50’.
  • 12 steaming bays (with water and electric on some).
  • Max grade: 3%.
  • 1 rail yard, but several sidings to park a train.

More detailed visitor information can be found in this Welcome Document. In addition, you can take a sneak peak at our Registration and Waiver forms. We’ll ask you to sign a copy of these at the Park.
